A temporary facelift effect without surgery? That’s exactly what Roloxin Lift by Demarche Labs promises. The revolutionary formula, which won the coveted Allure Best Breakthrough Award in 2014, is said to tighten, brighten, and lift skin up to 24 hours.
Sounds too good to be true? Let’s investigate:
What Roloxin Says
Roloxin™ Lift is an instant skin-smoothing treatment applied in just minutes that lasts up to 24 hours. It’s an entirely new way to revitalize your skin – and your sense of self. By improving facial texture and reducing the appearance of wrinkles, it will leave you with refreshed, truly radiant skin.
Silica, Silica Silylate, & Chitosan Glycolate
Roloxin™ Lift’s secret is a combination of hydrophilic and hydrophobic silica particles (silica and silica silyalate) that, with the help of film-former chitosan glycolate, creates a breathable layer on the skin that makes it feel as tight as a clay mask does (only this time the “mask” is invisible).
This layer creates a sort of blurring effect that makes skin looks smoother, reducing the appearance of fine lines and pores. But it doesn’t suffocate skin. On the contrary, it still allows sebum and sweat to be excreted, and cosmetic ingredients to penetrate it.
As the film dries, it becomes a white powder that needs to be rinsed away with water only. You can’t use your favourite cleanser because that will cleanse your face too well, removing too much of the product, thus reducing or annulling its effectiveness.
Sodium Hylauronate is a very powerful humectant. That means it can draw water from the environment into the skin, thus helping to keep it hydrated and creating a slight swelling that makes wrinkles look smaller. Unlike most humectants, it works very well both in low and high humidity conditions, so it can be used with great results by women (and men) all over the world, regardless of the climate they live in.
Retinyl Palmitate & Tocopheryl Acetate
A fporm of Vitamin A, Retinyl palmitate is a combination of pure retinol and palmitic acid. It needs to be converted first to retinol, then retinaldehyde and finally retinoic acid within the skin to be effective. Because of that, it is less effective but gentler than retinol, making it a better option for those with sensitive skin.
When used in high enough concentrations, retinyl palmitate displays similar effects as retinol, helping to reduce wrinkles and discolouration, boost collagen production, and firm skin.
Tocopheryl Acetate is a form of Vitamin E. An excellent moisturizer, it can strengthen the skin’s natural barrier, reducing water loss. It also has antioxidant properties, and can thus help prevent the formation of wrinkles.
Further Considerations On The Formula
While Roloxin Lift does a good job at airbrushing skin, its effects are only temporary and disappear as the film gets off. Retinyl palmitate can significantly improve skin when used regularly, but because of the many conversions it must undergo, it isn’t as effective as other forms of Vitamin A. And there’s certainly no reason to pay so much for it. Actually, there’s nothing in this formula that justifies the high price tag.
Full Ingredient List
Water, Silica, Propylene Glycol, Silica Silylate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Powder, Glycosaminoglycans, Chitosan Glycolate, Sclerotium Gum, Sorbic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Sodium Hydroxide, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate
The Bottom Line
Roloxin Lift can’t lift skin, but its temporary tightening effect can make large pores and fine lines look smaller. There’s no need to splurge so much on it though. A lot of products minimize their appearance at a fraction of the cost.
