Name: Extreme Volume Shampoo
From the packaging:
Designed to create noticeable body, shine and volume in limp, lifeless hair. This weightless formula utilises the strengthening properties of Soyben Oil and Rice Protein to gently cleanse and hydrate the hair, thickening each strand for full and bouncy results.
What I liked:
– cleanses hair well
– removes impurities that weight hair down, thus giving it a bit of volume
– doesn’t dry out hair nor irritates scalp
– texture is just right and spread easily
– smells lovely
– huge bottle, lasts for ages
What I didn’t like:
– if you expect the shampoo to give you a lot of volume on its own, you’ll be disappointed
I love living in London. The city is steeped in history and art. Parks and green areas where you can relax, exercise, and picnic with your friends, abound. The streets are lined with shops where you can buy anything you can think of, and more.
And don’t get me started about the food. There are all kinds of restaurants, pubs, cafés, and supermarkets that tempt you with their local or exotic, delicious offerings. Whether you crave some salty scones, a beefy kebab, or a plate of saucy spaghetti, you’ll easily find a place that’ll satisfy your hunger.
But as amazing as London is, it is causing havoc on my hair. Thin and straight, it has always lacked volume and bounce. Like that weren’t bad enough, it is also oily, so frequent washings are a must. But the spring winds and surprise showers London is famous for are making things worse (and thank goodness I moved at the end of spring!). Now I have to wash it daily.
At least I had to until Osmo Extreme Volume Shampooo landed on my desk. Pearly, clear white in colour, the shampoo has just the right consistency. It’s not thick but not runny, and it spreads easily on my scalp, removing dirt and other impurities without stripping too much of the oils that keep my hair naturally moisturized.
This feat is due to the gentle blend of Sodium Laureth Sulfate (not to be confused with the harsher Sodium Lauryl Sulfate – they are two different substances!), Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, and Cocamidopropyl Betaine. They allow dirt, residue from styling products, and other crap to mix with water and then be rinsed away.
All that stuff (particularly styling product build-up) can weight hair down. By removing it, your hair will slightly gain in volume. Using it together with the other products in the range (the conditioner and root lifter) provides even better results in the volume department, as I’ll be showing you soon, so stay tuned!
The shampoo alone may not work miracles on hair volume alone, but it allows me to go a couple of days without washing my hair. It is so liberating not having to do it daily, especially because I like to air-dry it, which takes time.
Oh, and the scent! It’s clean and soapy, with a touch of flowers and a slight aquatic vibe that reminds me of Issey Miyake’s scents. It’s lovely, different from the usual floral scents used in shampoos, and longlasting. Although not too strong, you can smell it for hours on your hair.
The shampoo is housed in a bright blue bottle. It is identical to that of the conditioner, so you have to be careful and read the label while in the shower or you risk picking up the wrong bottle. But, apart from that, it is practical. The opening dispenses the right amount of product so there is no waste. And the bottle is huge, so it will last you for ages.
