Name: Aqua Lip in 3C
Brand: Make Up For Ever
From Make Up For Ever’s website:
Creamy, non-transferable lip liner for long lasting glide-on precision.
What I liked:
– natural, versatile shade
– creamy enough to glide smoothly on the lips
What I didn’t like:
– feels tacky and a bit drying on the lips
Doesn’t matter how gorgeous a lip colour is, if it requires me to prep my lips with lip liner, I don’t usually bother with it. Unless it is a special occasion. Then I can justify the extra step. Even then, though, I rarely match colours. I prefer to use a neutral lip liner that just goes with anything, like Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip in 3C.
3C (don’t you just hate it when brands don’t bother giving their shades a real, easy to remember, name?) is a medium neutral beige that’s very versatile. You can use it with bold reds, bright fuchsias, vampy purples, and earthy browns. But it also looks very pretty on its own for that natural no makeup makeup look. Either way, it lasts a long, long time on the lips.
I tried smudging it with my fingers, but it didn’t move. It easily lasted through a quick snack (tea and some biscuits), and only half faded after a proper meal. That’s pretty impressive. But it does come off with just a water-based makeup remover, which is not what you’d expect from a waterproof product.
But I still think the best way to remove it is with an oil-based makeup remover. A water-based one does the job too, but takes a couple of minutes longer. I don’t go to the pool or beach often, and when I do I don’t wear makeup, so I’m not bothered this pencil isn’t completely waterproof. My lips never get wet, unless I drink, and Aqua Lip survives that pretty well, with only some fading.
It helps the texture, although creamy enough to glide on smoothly, is not so creamy to slide off the lips. I’d also venture to say it is a tad drying. It feels pretty comfortable at first, but then, after a few minutes, it turns a bit tacky, and after a couple of hours, it feels a bit drying. Nothing a swipe of lip balm beforehand can’t fix, though.
Colour payoff is great. They are opaque in just one coat, so you need to apply very little for each application. That’s great because, with this type of standard, old-school pencil, you already waste enough product when you sharpen it.
Although I like MUFE Aqua Pencils, they are not a must have. With lip balms, expensive rarely means better (even Senna lip liners have disappointed me, even though I adore the rest of their pricey line). You could probably find something similar in the drugstore aisle. But if you like the colour, and want something that lasts long, I think you will enjoy this.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip in 3C is a natural and versatile shade creamy enough to glide on smoothly but not enough to slide off them. Pigmented and longlasting, it feels a bit tacky and drying on the lips.
