What I didn’t like:
– if you leave the Manuka Honey Peel Off Mask on too long, removal will be a pain!
– because of the huge size, the Aloe Vera Face Spa mask doesn’t stick to skin that well
I don’t use facial masks a lot, but when I do, it’s usually one from Montagne Jeunesse. They have a huge range of masks available, all of which smell so delicious you may be tempted to eat them (but please, don’t!), and cost only £1.00 or so. A lot of them contain enough product to last for three or four times too, making them an excellent value for money.
One of my new favourites is the Manuka Honey Peel Off Mask. The first thing you notice when you open the packaging is the scent. Honey and jasmine. It’s divine. Sweet and yummy, it’s hard to believe this stuff is for external use only. But it is. You can’t eat it. Even the packaging says so. Yep, this stuff is so delicious that it comes with a warning!
Manuka Honey doesn’t just give the mask its delicious scent. This type of honey has both moisturizing and anti-bacteria properties. When bees feed on the nectar of the flowers of the manuka bush, they add an enzyme that generates low levels of hydrogen peroxide, which can kill bacteria. In addition, the honey also gives the mask its yellow colour. You’ll look like Marge Simpson for a while. Soon, though, it dries to an almost transparent colour.
The consistency is thin, but not too runny. I didn’t find it that messy to apply at all. Removal, though, was another thing entirely! That was partly my fault, though. The instructions say to leave it for 15-20 minutes, but I left it on a couple of minutes longer than that. I always read while I’m waiting for a mask to work its magic and I just had to finish the chapter, you know?
I didn’t think a couple of minutes more would have made a great difference, but oh boy! The mask had glued to my face, and it wouldn’t budge. It took me ages, but I eventually managed to make it come off. In tiny chunks. In the end, it got a bit painful, but at least my skin was super soft and clear.
So, a few days later, I tried it again (the packaging contains a lot of product, so if you seal it carefully, it’ll last you for a couple more times at least). This time, I only left it on for 12 minutes or so. And when I went to remove it, it peeled off easily in just one go. And, my skin was still soft and moisturized. Yay!
The Aloe Vera Face Spa is, instead, more user-friendly. It is a huge fabric facial mask with openings for eyes, nose and lips that’s very easy to apply. Although, because of how big it is, the edges don’t really stick to the skin that well. But, at least removal is a breeze!
The mask is saturated with soothing aloe vera and glycerin. The latter is an humectant that draws water from the enviroment into the skin, thus helping it to stay hydrated. That’s why I think this masks, which feels very refreshing on, is most suitable for people with dry and/or sensitive skin that needs that extra boost of hydration and a calming action.
You leave it on for only 5-10 minutes, then remove the mask, massage the residue on your skin, and rinse off. Afterwards, my skin felt fresh, clean, and soft. And did I mention how lovely and energizing the green tea and aloe scent is? It isn’t too strong, either, so it won’t bother your nose while you have it on.
