Name: Master Shape Brow Pencil in Deep Brown
From Maybelline’s website:
Natural wax formula, with subtle color pigments.
Creates hair-like fine lines for the most definition.
Feather with refined groomer to master the shapely brow.
Use with a sharpener.
What I liked:
– sheer colour payoff allows you to better control application for a natural look
– waxy texture stays put for about 6 hours
– features a spoolie, which has its own cap, to comb brows in place
– good shade selection
What I didn’t like:
– because of the soft texture, it needs to be sharpened frequently
– not that good at creating hair-like fine lines
When it comes to makeup products, the more pigmented the better, imo. There are only two exceptions to this rule. One is blushes. Pigmented blushes can easily make pale princesses like me look like clowns – not a good look! The other? Brow pencils.
If a brow pencil is too pigmented, it can create dark and sharp lines that look fake and weird. Sheer pencils, on the other hand, give a softer, more natural look. The application is easier to control too. If you need a more intense result, you can always build it up. But toning it down would be more complicated.
Luckily, Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencils fall on the sheer side. Available in four shades – Blonde, Soft Brown, Deep Brown, and Auburn – the subtle colour payoff will also ensure that everyone will be able to find a good match. I was sure that Deep Brown – a true dark brown – was gonna be too dark for me, but, instead, it works well for me.
Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil is easy to use. First, you fill in the brows with the pencil (although it works better at shading areas than at creating hair-like fine lines). Then, you use the spoolie on the other end to blend everything together and comb the brows in place. I love it that the spoolie has its own cap to protect it from grime and dirt. That way, the pencil is easy to carry with you in your bag.
There’s not much need to retouch it though. The pencil has a waxy texture so it holds up for about 6 hours on me before it begins to fade, which I found quite impressive. And nope, the waxy texture won’t make your brows look oily after a few hours. For as long as you’ll have it on, your brows will look natural and polished.
The soft texture has a con, though. It has to be sharpened frequently. That’s easy to do with any standard pencil sharpener. But frequent sharpening means that the pencil won’t last that long. I don’t fill in my brows daily (I like how they look au naturel), but if you do, that’s something to consider. $8.00 may sound cheap enough, but if you have to repurchase it often, you may end up spending more than you had originally expected.
Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil in Deep Brown, which comes with its own spoolie, has a sheer and buildable colour payoff that fills in brows, giving them a natural look. The waxy and soft texture ensures the colour stays in place for about 6 hours, but also means you’ll have to sharpen the pencil frequently.
