Usually, I don’t do white clothes:
1. I’m so clumsy, I often spill food or drink on me, or touch something I shouldn’t. White stains too easily, and is a pain to wash. It’s just too much work.
2. White loves to make us look bigger and show all those imperfections we’d much rather hide (or, at least, not emphasize).
3. White fabrics are usually very sheer, if not downright see-through. I prefer to keep my private bits private, thank you very much.
4. I’m ghostly pale. Stark white is not the most flattering shade on me.
But, when Luxemme, a new fashion brand that combines Parisian chic with Manchester street style, asked me to review a sample from their limited edition collection, the Olivie Lace Trim Two Piece just begged me to try it. For once, I didn’t need much convincing. If there’s one thing I just can’t resist is lace.
Lace can be tricky. Do it wrong, and you look like you’ve borrowed your grannie’s curtains. But, when done right, it instantly makes you look classy, chic, and feminine. The Olivie Lace Trim Two Piece gets it right.
The lace detail on the bottoms of the top and skirt add a touch of elegance to this sleek, modern outfit. It allows me to show that bit of extra skin without feeling self-conscious.
The outfit just strikes the perfect balance: casual enough for an afternoon of shopping with friends, and chic enough for a special occasion. It’s very easy to style too. A nice pair of heels, a coloured clutch, and, in the evening, a red lippie are all you need.
The polyester fabric is hardy without being thick and uncomfortable. And it’s not sheer. I can wear black underwear underneath it, if I so wish it, and it never shows. Nor does my not-so-flat-tummy.
I was quite worried that, because the two piece draws the eye to the middle, it’d make my waist look bigger and flabbier. But it doesn’t. The cut is very flattering, and the lace helps subtly hide any unwanted bumps.
The skirt doesn’t ride up every time I sit or move either, which is a relief. There’s nothing worse than having to pull down your skirt every five minutes, is it? Zips that break easily are just as bad. Those at the back of the two piece look and feel quite sturdy. *heaves sigh of relief*
So far, I managed not to stain the top or skirt. I’m quite proud of that. Laugh all you want, but it’s a big achievement for me. I hope it means I’m starting to become better coordinated.
But I’m still not 100% convinced white is the right colour for me. Maybe it’s because I’m not used to see myself wearing so much white, but it does look a bit stark, doesn’t it?
That’s why I prefer to wear the pieces separately, and pair the skirt with a bright green blouse, or the top with skinny black jeans. It’s more flattering. And so versatile. You don’t get to do that with a dress.
If you’ve fallen in love with Luxemme Lace Trim Two Piece dress too, hurry up! It’s limited edition, so there’s no time to think about it too much. You need to act now!
THE BOTTOM LINE
