Name: Skin Perfection Cleansing & Perfecting Milk
From L’Oreal’s website:
L’Oréal Paris Skin Perfection Cleansing and Perfecting Milk, specifically formulated for sensitive skin. The rich milk, infused with softening actives, leaves skin feeling nourished, soothed and silky smooth whilst effectively removing make-up and impurities.
What I liked:
– removes all traces of makeup and dirt quickly and easily
– leaves skin soft
– a little goes a long way
What I didn’t like:
– contains fragrance
– the bottle has a big opening that make it easy to pour out more product than necessary
If there is one thing a product designed for sensitive skin, even one that’s supposed to be rinsed off, should never contain is fragrance. That’s even more true when said product can be used on the eyes too. Sadly, L’Oreal broke this rule when they formulated their L’Oreal Skin Perfection Cleansing & Perfecting Milk. The cleanser contains a strong, but pleasant, scent.
It’s true that a good scent makes a product a real pleasure to use, but so many ingredients are used to create it that there’s always a chance one of them could cause a negative reaction in people with sensitive skin. Most people will likely be able to use it without problems, but it’s just something to consider if your skin is irritated easily. Mine, which is combination, isn’t, and the scent didn’t bother it at all.
The other thing I dislike about the product is the packaging. The tall, rectangular white bottle is sleek and pretty, but its big opening makes it easy to pour out more product than necessary. And that’s a shame because the stuff inside is so good that a little goes a long, long way. If you use it carefully, it will last you for a long time.
L’Oreal Skin Perfection Cleansing & Perfecting Milk is white in colour and has a slightly runny consistency, just like milk. It quickly and easily removes all traces of dirt, impurities and makeup, including longlasting products and waterproof mascara, leaving skin soft and smooth. I usually have to use two cotton pads to remove all my makeup, but with this, one is enough.
Its secret? Mineral oil. This much maligned ingredient has the ability to dissolve the oils in makeup and on your skin, leaving it clean. A lot of people prefer to avoid it anyway because it is derived from petroleum. But cosmetic grade mineral oil, the only type allowed to be used in cosmetics, undergoes a refining process that removes all the nasty and toxic stuff from it, making it safe for use.
Mineral oil also doesn’t clog pores. Not on its own, anyway. It has the ability to create a protective barrier on the skin, which means that if your skin is dirty or you use products with comedogenic ingredients, these will get trapped beneath. Otherwise, it will just slow down water loss, keeping your skin hydrated.
Personally, I’d be more concerned about Isopropyl Palmitate, an oil used as an emollient and thickening agent in cosmetics. Isopropyl Palmitate is very comedogenic and when I use a moisturizer with it, pimples pop up everywhere on my face. Ugh. So, why have I bought a product that contains it? Because this is a cleanser, which means Isopropyl Palmitate won’t stay on my skin long enough to cause any damage. And in the three weeks I used the cleanser, not even a tiny zit has appeared on my face.
Water, Mineral Oil, Isopropyl Palmitate, Propylene Glycol, Zea Mays/Corn Germ Oil, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Lecithin, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan), Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Polysorbate 20, Pentaerythrityl, Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Methylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylparaben, Fragrance.
L’Oreal Skin Perfection Cleansing & Perfecting Milk easily and quickly removes all traces of dirt and makeup, including waterproof mascaras, leaving skin soft. However, the packaging has a big opening that makes it easy to pour out more product than necessary. I also wish it were fragrance-free.
