Name: Tubereuse 1 Capricieuse
Brand: Histoires De Parfums
What I liked:
– a lovely iris scent masqueraded as a tuberose one
– if you find tuberose scents hard to wear, this is for you
– good sillage and staying power
What I didn’t like:
– the tuberose note makes only a brief appearance
– the price (although samples are available)
I thought that Tubereuse 3 Animalic would be the real diva in the Histoires De Parfums Tuberose trilogy. After all, that’s supposed to be an animalic leather concoction laced with tobacco and immortelle. But such a powerful blend turned out to smell like the old-fashioned dressing room of a once great but now almost forgotten diva.
The stage now belongs to a new, younger diva. One that takes her time to make her appearance, only to disappear again moments later, knowing all too well that people get easily tired of someone who’s there in your face all the time. Or is she just capricieuse and can’t be bothered to hang out with her fans for long?
Whatever the reason, what was supposed to be the tamest scent in the tuberose trilogy is the true diva of the bunch. To start with, Tubereuse 1 Capricieuse doesn’t even smell that much like tuberose. Instead, it’s a beautiful iris fragrance. In the beginning though, all you smell is a fresh and luminous burst of citrus fruits enveloping a metallic saffron note in a sparkling embrace.
It’s in the heart that the iris truly shines. It’s dry and rooty, and keeps the tuberose firmly back in the background. But our capricious queen manages to make a fleeting appearance, sweetening the composition somewhat and giving it a creamy, even powdery, vibe. But unlike Tubereuse 3 Animalic, it never smells old-fashioned.
In the drydown, all the metallic notes disappears. Instead, iris now lies on a leathery suede base enriched by whiffs of cocoa. It’s sweet, warm, and subtle. By this stage, Tuberesuse 1 Capricieuse (which had never been too overpowering) has become a skin scent. One that hangs around for about 10 hours before disappearing. The tuberose will be long gone by then, though. If you love this note, that will surely bother you. Instead, those who find it hard to wear, but love iris instead, will love this capricious concoction.
Histoires De Parfums Tubereuse 1 Capricieuse is a warm and powdery iris scent masqueraded as a tuberose one. Both staying power and sillage are good.
