Name: Bad Gal Lash Mascara
From Benefit’s website:
Sexy, dramatic, pure unadulterated black mascara for full, voluminous lashes. Famously big brush coats lashes with our thick black formula. It’s as BAD as you want to be!
What I liked:
– gives lashes some length and volume
– two coats provides a nice natural look
– longlasting, doesn’t smudge
– intense black shade
– easy to layer
What I didn’t like:
– wand is too big, makes it difficult to reach tiny lashes, and doesn’t separate well
– you need to layer it to get a false lashes look
Benefit Bad Gal Lash is a very bad gal indeed. You never know if it’s going to do you any favours. As I often do, I had been looking at reviews online before giving it a try, and they all said different things. Some bloggers raved about the false lash look they got, others were disappointed the mascara didn’t do anything for them.
Some said Bad Gal Lash lasted from morning till night on them, others that they were left with panda eyes by the end of the day. The wand generated either love it or hate it feelings too. Granted, no product can work well for everyone, but Bad Gal Lash seems to provide different results each time! Very confusing!
So, what does it do for me? Not much, I’m afraid. I seem to be one of those gals Bad Gal Lash doesn’t like much. Two coats did provide some volume and length, but not much. Some reviewers said they needed to apply 4 coats to get the desired effect, but I haven’t tried that.
I refuse to apply more than a couple of coats, Benefit. Pupa Vamp! Mascara gives me that gorgeous false lashes effect in just one, so there’s no excuse for you to ask me to layer it, and layer it, and layer it some more.
No matter how easy you make it. And yes, this mascara is pretty easy to layer. That’s because the texture is just right. Not thick, but not runny either. But the point is, I want something that works well and quickly. Make me work too hard at it, and I just won’t bother. I’ll just go back to my beloved Pupa Vamp! Mascara.
You may feel differently, though. If you don’t mind applying 4 coats, or if you dig the more natural look 2 provide, then Bad Gal Lash is not that bad at all. On me, it did last 8 hours without smudging and only minimal fading, which really impressed me. I had almost resigned myself to rock the panda eyes look, and when that didn’t happen… what a relief!
My main gripe with Bad Gal Lash, though, is the wand. It is so huge and thick! I knew it wasn’t gonna work that well with small eyes, and, this time, I was proved right. When I use it, I end up with smudges on my lids. Every. Single. Time. So annoying! My friend Melissa suggested I use a tissue or card to cover my lid, and that seems to do the trick (thanks hun!).
One problem with the wand solved. Now, about the others… I find it hard to reach my tiniest lashes with it, and the others get a bit clumped up together (as you can see from the photo above), so I have to use a lash comb to separate them and get a more natural, defined look.
Maybe I was a bit too harsh on Benefit Bad Gal Lash. It’s not a bad mascara, but it requires more hard work than I’m willing to do to get full, voluminous lashes. But then, you may have a completely different experience. With Bad Gal Lash, you just never know.
Benefit Bad Gal Lash Mascara provides a longlasting false lashes look, but only if you apply about 4 coats. But I hate the wand! It’s huge, so it can’t reach every lash and doesn’t separate well either.
