Name: Marvelous Moxie in Speak Your Mind
Brand: Bare Minerals
From Bare Minerals’ website:
Make an impact with Marvelous MoxieTM Lipstick. Creamy, super-saturated, ultra-pigmented colour glides on like butter for full coverage in a rich satin finish.
What I liked:
– neutral pink with a satin finish, goes with everything
– good colour payoff
– glides smoothly on the lips
– feels comfortable on; not drying
– good staying power, doesn’t bleed
What I didn’t like:
– texture isn’t as creamy as I thought it would be
– fades unevenly
Speaking your mind is a marvelous moxie thing. And one we women don’t do often enough for fear of coming across as b*tches. But expressing your thoughts and feelings is not bossy. It’s assertive, and it’s your right.
Of course, I came to this realisation very slowly. I used to just sit there, biting my tongue, going along with what everyone else said and did, even if I didn’t approve, for fear of being rejected. I was even afraid of telling the waiter he had got my order wrong or the sale assistant that the lippie she was trying to sell me didn’t suit me at all.
So, I got stuck with a lot of crap I neither wanted nor needed. Until I just couldn’t do it anymore. The older I get, the less I care about what people think. Speaking my mind is becoming easier and easier (although, doing so tactfully is something I’m still working on!). Not everyone likes it, but I know those who stay around like the real me, not the girl I used to pretend I was to please them.
But what has all this got to do with a lippie, I hear you ask? Well, I think back to that scared little girl I used to be whenever I swipe on Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Speak Your Mind. Kudos to Bare Minerals for coming up with a name that inspires women to take charge of their own lives. More brands should follow suit, don’t you think?
Speak Your Mind is not a bright red or neon fuchsia. It’s a more understated, slightly mauve, neutral pink with a satin finish. It’s a quite neutral shade, perfect for daily wear.
I like that. It reminds us that we don’t have to be loud and obnoxious to express our thoughts. We can do so calmly and respectfully, which, let’s face it, works a lot better than screaming and shouting. That’s what makes people think you’re a b*tch!
Speak Your Mind has great colour payoff. One swipe leaves behind an opaque pink coat that subtly brightens up my face. But I could do with more creaminess. The texture is soft and glides on smoothly, but not like butter. I feel like at this price point it should, you know? But as it feels comfortable on, and doesn’t dry out my lips, I’m cool with it.
I also appreciate it doesn’t settle into fine lines, flake off, or bleed. In fact, as long as I leave it alone, it stays put on my pout for a few good hours. But if I eat, even just a light snack, I need to reapply it. Some of the colour stays behind, but in patches, and since when was that ever a good look?
Speak Your Mind could do with a little upgrade, just to make it that little more creamy and long lasting, but I’m still smitten with it. Simple pink shades like this are so easy and comfortable to wear, and they always make me feel good when I rock them. And that’s why I keep coming back to them, and this, again, and again, and again.
Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie in Speak Your Mind is a pigmented and creamy neutral pink that glides smoothly on the lips. But it fades unevenly.
