Name: True Colour Eyeshadow Duo in Black Star
From Avon’s website:
All day, crease-proof colour, stays true to help your eyes pop! Buildable formula that glides over eyes for easy application.
What I liked:
– buildable colour payoff
– soft texture, blends like a dream
– pretty and practical packaging
What I didn’t like:
– some people may find the black shade too soft
– needs a primer to last more than a couple of hours
I’m scared of black eyeshadow. There, I said it. I dig neons. I love coming up with unusual and bold color combos, such as hot pink and dark blue with a big of bright yellow thrown in for good measure. I can even do red eyeshadow. But black I usually stay away from.
Dark black shades against my pale skin tone make me look sick and bruised. So, when my friend Tine sent me Avon True Colour Eyeshadow Duo In Black Star, which features a matte black shade and a pearly white hue, I was a bit hesitant to try it. But I shouldn’t have worried.
While the white is a true white, the black is a soft greyish black shade with good, but buildable, colour payoff. This may be a bit offputting to dark damsels looking for a dramatic black shade, but pale princesses will appreciate having such control over the application. One swipe provides a soft wash of colour, which can intensified by adding more.
But even then, the black retains a certain softness that makes it very wearable. The pearly white, instead, beautifully completes the look by adding luminosity to the browbone. Used together, they create a soft smokey look that the most adventurous will be able to sport even during the daytime.
Both shades are very soft to the touch and blend like a dream. But, to last 8 hours on the lids, they need to be applied on top of a primer. When I tried them on my bare, somewhat oily lids, the colours turned into a creasy, faded mess within only a couple of hours.
The black packaging is very sleek. It features a mirror big enough to allow you to see what you’re doing, but I wish the dual-ended sponge applicator had been afforded less space. Or, even better, removed completely. It’s just useless anyway.
Avon True Colour Eyeshadow Duo in Black Star features two soft and buildable shades that blend like a dream. However, they need a primer to stay put for more than a couple of hours.
