Hello smart beauties,
how are you doing today? Hope you’re having a wonderful time.
Thank you to all of you who took the time to fill in my readers’ feedback survey. Your opinions, suggestions, and comments are invaluable, and really help me to create a better version of Beautiful With Brains.
I thought you’d like to know the results, and how they will be shaping the blog in the months to come. I also want to address a few issues that popped up in the comments. So, let’s get started:
1. More skincare, Less life
Although a lot of you have said they like the new lifestyle direction the blog took last year, most of you are here for the science-based skincare stuff. So, I’ll give you more of that, and dedicate the weekend to fashion, lifestyle, and London posts (a whole new series about London is coming soon).
But I will never go back to being only a beauty blog. There are two reasons for that.
1. As fascinating as it is, skincare is pretty simple. There are certain products and ingredients (vitamin C serum, retinol, sunscreen, a good cleanser, AHAs or BHA based exfoliant, humectants etc) that everyone needs.
Once you know the basic rules, it’s all about tweaking them to fit your skin type and needs. For example, mature women need more retinol than teenagers, while sensitive and dry skin types prefer physical sunblocks to chemical sunscreens.
So, after 7 years of repeating the same things over and over again, I feel the need to take a break for a day or two a week.
2. When I started this blog, I was in a really bad place. I loved makeup, skincare, and, well… that’s it. Depression had taken everything else – passions, friends, job, will to live – away from me. I’m finally out of the tunnel, and starting to rebuild my life. So, naturally, now I feel the urge to talk about my other passions, such as fashion, books, and London.
More importantly, I feel the need to share the tips and techniques that helped me get better and build up my self-confidence, as well as everything that I’ve learnt (and am still learning) on this crazy journey called life. That’s my inspiration behind the new personal development section (the most popular of the new topics). I hope it may help those of you who are still struggling with whatever crap you’re going through. It’ll get better, I promise.
Reviews & Photos
Most of you want me to review more makeup, skincare, and… haircare products. I was surprised about the latter, because my haircare tips have never been popular. Oh well, more haircare stuff is coming soon. Also, I’ve just got a new DSLR camera, so photos will get a lot better soon (I hope!)
Most of the comments were kind and positive, but others expressed some concerns. There’s one in particular I want to address. Some of you were wondering if some of my recent posts were sponsored. Nope. Although if the right opportunity arose, I wouldn’t turn it down, I have never published a sponsored post, yet. If I ever do, you can rest assured I will openly disclose it.
But, when planning my editorial calendar and writing posts, I’m focusing more on topics and products that are easier to monetize AND can help you achieve flawless skin. I don’t think the two are mutually exclusive.
I’m not the only blogger who thinks so. Most of us do it these days, and the reason is simple. We have to eat, too. Yes, I have a job, but I’m just starting out in my new career, and London is super expensive, so the extra income from the blog is a huge help.
Even so, I would never promote a product I didn’t like just to make a quick buck. You’d find it out soon, if I did. You’re smart. 🙂
Having said that, if you think the blog is becoming too salesy and pushy, let me know. I genuinely want to help get flawless skin, improve your relationship with your body, and just be the better version of yourself you can be, both inside and out. If I can support myself doing it, all the better, but that’s never going to be my chief motivation. I promise you.
If you have any more questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to ask. You can do so either here or on social media. Or you can shoot me an email at beautifulwithbrains[at]gmail[dot]com. I reply to every email, even if sometimes it can take a few days.
I can’t wait to hear from you!
