Name: Glo Face & Body Highlighter
From Sleek’s website:
5 complimentary glowing strips of powder available in 3 shade variants which can be applied to the face and body to give the skin a shimmering, naturally glowing and sunkissed look.
What I liked:
– pigmented colors
– sleek packaging
– comes with a big mirror
– the price
What I didn’t like:
– if used together, the shades get mixed up and muddy soon
– very frosty, makes me look like a disco ball
– enhances the appearance of pores
– makes oily skin looks shinier
– quite hard to blend
You’re probably tired of hearing me rave about Sleek products so this time I won’t. Yep, you’ve heard that right. I don’t think their Glo Face & Body Highlighter is a bad product, simply I’m sad to report that, as hard as I tried, I just couldn’t get it to work for me. The highlighter comes in a sleek black case, very similar to that of the eyeshadows palettes, only smaller. Inside, you can find a mirror big enough to be useful and see what you’re doing, a small domed brush with soft bristles that don’t scratch skin but doesn’t blend the powder well so it’s useless and 5 stripes of highlighting shades (expect them to become muddy and messy pretty soon though).
Available in 3 shade variants, I got Peach Shimmer, which features two peach shades obviously, two browns and an off-white. All the shades have excellent pigmentation and that’s one of the main problems I have with this product. I like highlighting powders that give my face a subtle glow and don’t show up too much color on the skin. But when I use the shades in Sleek Glo together, what I get is a lot of strong and obvious color on my cheekbones and everywhere else I apply it.
I’ve tried using it with a light hand and with any type of brush I own, from big fluffy blush brushes to dual-fibres ones, but inevitably, every time I ended up with two muddy spots on my very pale cheeks. Not to mention that this stuff is quite hard to blend, so sheering out the color isn’t an easy task. It can be done, but it takes patient and a lot of work. Considering its pigmentation doesn’t make this a good highlighter for pale skin, I thought I could at least use it as a blush. But that didn’t work either.
That’s because these shades have a very frosty finish that makes skin glow way too much. I usually like very shimmery blushes, but this makes me look like a discoball and I’m not digging that. In addition, it can make oily skin look shinier and if you have big pores, this will enhance them. I may try to use them as eyeshadows, maybe they’ll work that way but on my face, doesn’t matter how I use it, it just doesn’t look good. 🙁 But if you decide to try it and like it, you’ll be glad to know that it lasts throughout the day without having to reapply.
Overall, if you have pale skin, big pores or oily skin, stay away from this product. It has some nice qualities like pigmentation and lasting power and I can see it working for some people, but most will probably find it hard to use. Actually, unless you like very pigmented highlighting powders with a frosty finish that you can also use as a blush or you plan to use them as eyeshadows, I think you could safely skip this.
Overall, I think Sleek Glo Face & Body Highlighter in Peach Shimmer is just average. The shades are very pigmented (too much for a highlighting powder) and have a very frosty finish that enhances the appearance of big pores and makes oily skin look oilier. They might work well as eyeshadows though and are longlasting. The packing is sleek, comes with a big mirror and the price is cheap.
