Name: Cream Lipstick in Down To Earth and Midas
From Senna’s website:
This creamy cushion lipstick formula is velvety smooth, hydrating and comfortable with maximum color impact and long lasting wear.
What I liked:
– beautiful summery shades, they complement a tan well
– Down To Earth is very pigmented
– Midas is a top coat that adds a lovely golden glow to any lipstick shade but can also be used alone
– texture is smooth and glides on easily
– good staying power
What I didn’t like:
– not very moisturizing
How many times do we ignore good products at cosmetic counters because we find the shades unappealing, when, if we bothered to try them, we’d realise they’re actually very pretty and flattering on us? That’s what I asked myself when I had the chance to try the new Senna Cream Lipstick shades for summer 2013.
When it comes to lipstick, I tend to stick to pink and coral shades, straying into red only for special occasions, so Down To Earth, a warm golden brown with a subtle rosy tint and golden shimmers, and Midas, a metallic gold, wouldn’t have attracted my attention. The former looks boring and the other unwearable, don’t they? But appearances can be deceiving.
Down To Earth complements a tan really well. Applied straight from the tube, it’s quite pigmented and dark, but you can easily make it lighter and sheerer by using a lip brush. Midas, on the other hand, is quite sheer. If you want a full on gold lip, you’ll have to layer it. Instead, this shade really shines when used as a top coat. Simply apply your favourite lipstick and then add a touch of Midas to give it a lovely summer glow.
Both lipsticks have a soft and smooth texture that glides on easily on the lips, but sadly, I didn’t find it as moisturizing as promised. Down To Earth, in particular, began to feel slightly uncomfortable on my lips after one hour of wear, which is why I’d recommend you apply these only over a lip balm.
How about staying power? Both Down To Earth and Midas last about two to three hours on the lips, as long as you don’t eat or kiss. Even a light snack will make both shades fade considerably. I don’t think that’s that bad, though, as most lipsticks last only about an hour and a half on me!
