Name: Latte Solare Spray SPF 25
Brand: Programme Solaire
From Programme Solaire’s website:
For people with sensitive and delicate skin or prone to allergic reactions caused by the sun. Non-greasy, it deeply hydrates skin.
What I liked:
– lightweight texture sinks quickly into the skin
– prevents sunburns
– the price
What I didn’t like:
– doesn’t provides broad spectrum protection
– not very hydrating
– scent is too strong, sweet and old-fashioned
incessantly nag occasionally remind my friends about the importance of wearing sunscreen daily, most of them still insist on using it only in the summer. *sighs* At the end of the season, I am sometimes gifted their still half-full bottles. After all, their contents will be expired by next summer, so better finish them while they’re still good, right?
Programme Solaire Latte Solare Spray SPF 25 is one such sunscreen. And not a particularly good one either. To start with, the scent is foul. It’s an indistinct gourmand concoction with floral and powdery touches that smells too sweet, too strong and too old-fashioned. And it lingers on the skin for hours. Still, scents are subjective, so some of you may love it.
My main problem, though, is the lack of broad spectrum protection. The sunscreen claims to have SPF UVB 25, and UVA +++, but its protection from the latter leaves somewhat to be desired. Its only UVA filter is Titanium Dioxide, a white mineral that creates a shield on the skin. When UV rays hit it, they are reflected away from it.
While Titanium Dioxide provides protection against the entire UVB range, it only protects against short UVA rays. For this reason, it should always be used together with other UVA filters such as Avobenzone, Zinc Oxide or Mexoryl SX. Sadly, none of them are included here.
Its UVB protection, instead, is pretty good. In addition to Titanium Dioxide, the sunscreen also contains the chemical UVB filters Octinoxate (Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate) and Ethylhexyl Triazone, both of which work by transforming UV rays into a less damaging form of energy (heat). The latter hasn’t been approved by the FDA yet, so it can’t be used as UV filters in sunscreens sold in the US.
This means that (if applied correctly, that is), the sunscreen will prevent sunburns, which are caused by UVB rays, but won’t entirely protect your skin from other kinds of damage caused by sun rays such as premature aging. It’s always better than nothing, of course, but I’d rather leave it on the shelf and buy a sunscreen that offers broad spectrum protection.
On the plus side, the sunscreen, which is white in colour, has a very thin and lightweight (too lightweight too provide much hydration) texture that spreads easily and sinks quickly into the skin without leaving an annoying greasy or oily residue behind. It does, however, provide a subtle shiny finish to the skin.

Programme Solaire Latte Solare Spray SPF 25 has a lightweight, non greasy but not very hydrating texture that is quickly absorbed by the skin. It offers complete protection from UVB rays, and therefore sunburns, but not from UVA rays and the premature aging they cause.
