Released in 1978, Oleg Cassini Reporter For Men Eau De Toilette is a little known and now hard to find fragrance. Although it’s not original enough for you to hunt it down, it is pleasant enough to be worth a sniff should you chance to come across it. Reporter for men features the pungent and woody notes typically found in men’s scents, but here they are sweetened by a fresh and fruity bouquet.
Reporter For Men opens with a refreshing citrusy explosion. Bergamot, lime and grapefruit take center stage, while subtle whiffs of rosemary, lavender and bay lead, enriched by aldehydes, dance in the background. Soon, they disappear, to be replaced by a floral accord. But don’t worry guys. The flowers in this composition – jasmine, carnation and cyclamin – all smell masculine, thanks to the addition of nutmeg, pine and spicy cardamom.
The base is a woody-amber affair. Cedarwood and ambergris are the main characters, supported by musk and fava tonka, which help to slightly sweeten the composition. Incense is supposed to be there too, but sadly my nose didn’t pick it up. It’s a shame, as that’s one of my favourite notes.
Fresh, intense and assertive, Reporter For Men is a scent best suited for formal occasions, like a work interview or an important meeting with a client. It’s serious without being boring and persistent, but without being too strong. You want to impress your clients or employers, not give them a headache! Oh, and the ladies will appreciate it too. 😉
