Name: Skin Adapt Face Wash
Brand: Oil Of Olaz/Olay
From Olay’s website:
Do you have combination skin? are some areas oily and others dry? Olay Skin Adapt Face Wash can help you restore the balance of your skin. It removes make-up and impurities thoroughly, also controls sebum (oil) secretion and reduces blackheads/acne.
What I liked:
– cleans well
– it isn’t drying
– the price
What I didn’t like:
– not astringent enough for oily areas
– the scent
– the packaging
Finding a cleanser for combination skin is not easy. Some have good astringent properties but are too harsh for dry patches, while other don’t dry skin even more but don’t control oil production either. So when Oil of Olaz (or Olay as it is called in other parts of the world) released a new range called Skin Adapt designed for people with combination skin I decided to give their face wash a try.
The gel is transparent and has quite a thick consistency. Just like with any other face wash, you need to wet your face, pour some in the palms of your hands and massage on your face, where it foams nicely, and rinse off with lukewarm water.
The face wash cleans skin very well leaving it feeling soft and fresh. It doesn’t irritate my skin and doesn’t dry out my dry patches, but it doesn’t do anything for my oily areas. After only about an hour my skin is shining again! And even though, it doesn’t make me break out, it doesn’t reduce blackheads either.
The face wash is full of mild surfactants, like Sodium Lauroamphoacetate, PEG-200 Hydrogenated Glyceryl Palmate and Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, which give the product good cleansing properties. Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate is also used for its ability to boost foam.
The face wash also includes Cucumis Sativus, and ingredient derived from cucumber, which is said to have anti-inflammatory, astringent and emollient properties. However, there is currently no research showing this is true.
The face wash is packaged in a light-blue tube, which I don’t find appealing at all but makes it easy to get just the small amount of product you need. I’m not a fan of the scent either: it’s floral and quite strong.
I’m usually a fan of Oil of Olaz/Olay products, but this face wash is just average. It does a good job at cleansing skin and it isn’t drying, but doesn’t reduce blackheads or acne nor controls sebum production like it claims.
