Name: Lash-Art Mascara in Blue, Purple and Yellow
From Layla’s website:
Invent “Total Color”, looks covering all the eyelashes with one or more colours, or create “Minimal Chic Looks” by coloring only the tips for winning results.
What I liked:
– available in lots of different fun shades
– adds a lot of length
– separates lashes well
– doesn’t clump
– easy to remove
– the packaging
– the price
What I didn’t like:
– doesn’t provide much volume
– smudges a bit
Last February, I reviewed the Layla Lash-Art Mascara in Black and mentioned that it is available in other five colorful shades: yellow, red, blue, purple and green. These fun shades can be used on the entire length of the lashes for a crazy “total color” effect or only on their tips to add a touch of color to your looks. I really like the idea of colored mascaras and I was curious to see how these would perform. Are they as pigmented as the rest of Layla products or are they so sheer that you can’t really see the color once on the lashes, as it is sadly often the case with colored mascaras?
The shades I got are N.2, a bright yellow; N.3, an aubergine purple; and N.5, an electric blue. They come in a sleek silver packaging which is see-through on one side so you can see what color the mascara is and how much is still left in the tube. The wand has a slight hourglass shape, bigger at the ends and thinner in the middle. It provides a lot of length, very little volume and separates lashes well (please note that, in the swatches below, I quickly applied the mascara so that you could see how the colors look on lashes, but had I wiggled the wand more I would have got better results).
So, how pigmented are the shades? I’d say the color payoff is good, but not great. They are definitely more pigmented than any other colored mascaras I have ever seen, but it still takes at least a couple of coats (the yellow one required more) for the color to show up properly on the lashes. But when it does, you get exactly the color you see in the tube. Layla recommends to apply a coat of black mascara beforehand to make the shades stand out more, but I haven’t tried that yet as I like how they look on bare lashes. My eyelashes aren’t that dark though, but if yours are you may need a base and few more coats to make the color show up.
The formula has a creamy consistency (creamier than any mascaras I’ve ever tried), which leaves lashes feeling soft to the touch. I really liked that. Once applied, the mascara stays put from morning till evening so you don’t need to reapply it throughout the day. I also noticed some minimal smudges, but only on windy days, so that doesn’t really bother me.
Those who live in a country where Layla products are not available may be interested to know that their official website (link below) has finally started to ship internationally. Unfortunately, P&P are very high. If you wanna try their products, you may want to ask one or two friends if they are interested in trying something too so you can share shipping costs.

Layla Lash-Art Mascara is available in six colorful shades. More pigmented than most colored mascaras on the market, they still require a few coats to achieve a bright coat of color on the lashes. The mascara has a creamy consistency, adds length (but not volume) and the wand separates lashes well. It lasts all day too.
