Name: Graffiti Top Coat
From Layla’s website:
A Top-Coat to apply on every type of nail polish, even clear, the product will change in a few instants. No nail will be just like the other and you will be able to create millions of different looks.
What I liked:
– beautiful graffiti/crackle effect
– good color payoff
– matte finish
– easy to apply
– dries very fast
– the packaging
What I didn’t like:
– the graffiti effect fades fast if you don’t use a protective top coat on top
– if you don’t wait for nail polish to be dry before applying the top coat, the effect will be ruined
Crackle nail polishes are everywhere right now and, I don’t know about you, but I’m loving the trend. For someone like me that loves nail art but is absolutely not capable of doing it, these nail polishes are a great and fast way to create beautiful effects on nails that look different every time. The latest brand to come out with crackle nail polish is Layla.
Their Graffiti Top Coat is available in six shades: white, black, pink, red, yellow and blue and they can be used on any nail polish you desire to create endless beautiful color combinations and effects. I had the chance to try the black and red ones and here are my thoughts on them.
The black one is undoubtedly my favourite of the two because the color is really intense, pigmented and can be used with any color. Here you see it applied on top of Layla Ceramic Effect Nail Polish n.24, which was somewhat of a fail as the light blue was sheer and a nightmare to apply (but more on that when I’ll review it) but you can still see how pretty and intense the black is.
The red one, which is bright and has great color payoff too, is less versatile as red doesn’t go with any color and it looks less intense and somewhat duller on top of darker shades. But still, it is a beautiful shade and I think it looks lovely paired with Layla Ceramic Effect n.21. The nails look edgy but quite feminine too.
Getting this effect is really easy. First, you apply any nail polish you want and wait about 5 minutes or so until it is completely dry. This is very important. If you look at my middle finger in the black/light blue combination you see huge chunks of black at the top and bottom of the nail showing the color hasn’t separated well. That’s because I didn’t wait long enough which ruined the overall effect. So I waited a couple more minutes before painting the other nails and it worked so well!
Just apply a generous coat of the Graffiti Top Coat on the painted nails and instantly you will see the color shrink and form lots of little graffiti/crackles. Wanna see it in action? Click here (video is in Italian but you don’t have to know the language to understand how it works). The Graffiti Top Coat polishes, which dry very very fast, have a matte finish which I think looks very pretty. But if you prefer your nails to be shiny, just apply a shiny top coat on top.
I actually recommend you do apply a top coat (weather shiny or matte) anyway because the crackles near the tips of the nails start to fade after about a couple of days. I don’t mind the effect as it gives the nails a more grungier, edgy look that I really like but if you want your manicure to remain perfect for a few days, a top coat is necessary.

Layla Graffiti Top Coat, available in six colors, will give your nails a crackle, graffiti effect that looks different on every nail. You can use it with any color you want to create beautiful combinations in only a few instants. But you need to wait for the polish to be dry before applying it or the effect won’t look that good. Easy to apply and pigmented, Graffiti Top Coat has a matte finish and dries very quickly. But the graffiti don’t last long without a protective top coat on top.
