Name: Mat Lipstick in Marrone Classico
From Kiko’s website:
Long lasting, flawless and moisturizing lipstick.
What I liked:
– matte finish
– fairly pigmented
– long-lasting for a lip product
– the price
What I didn’t like:
– application can be patchy if lips aren’t well moisturized
– can feel drying on the lips
– fades unevenly
– strong scent
I’m not a huge fan of lipsticks, and even less of matte ones. What can I say? I like shiny, shimmery things. Besides, I find matte lippies are usually harder to apply and drier than those with a shinier, creamier finish so I tend to stay away from them. But a while ago, I got Kiko Mat Lipstick in Marrone Classico in a swap so I thought I’d put it to the test. The verdict? Just another matte lipstick.
Let’s start by talking about the shade. Marrone Classico (Classic Brown) is a warm, quite soft shade of brown with a matte finish. I’m not a fan of brown lip shades but I like this one. I don’t have anything similar in my stash and I was surprised to see that it looks quite good with my coloring (pale skin, green eyes, brown hair). Who knew? Maybe it’s time I buy more brown shades as my lip stash features almost exclusively pinks.
But anyway, the pigmentation is quite good. One swipe doesn’t pack on too much color, but it also isn’t so sheer to let your natural color shine through. I’d say this is medium-pigmented but the problem is that application can be tricky. If you don’t exfoliate your lips and moisturize them well before applying Mat Lipstick, then the shade will go on your lips very patchy and uneven. On a smooth and moisturized pout, instead, it goes on nicely but still feels a bit drying.
Mat Lipstick doesn’t stay put all day, but the staying power is not too bad for a lipstick. It lasts several good hours and when it fades it leaves a stain behind. The only problem is that it fades unevenly, which isn’t a good look, so I recommend you reapply it. Oh, and if you can, smell it before you buy it as it has a really strong vanilla scent, which may put some people off (it disappears quickly once on the lips though).

Overall, Kiko Mat Lipstick in Marrone Classico is just average. It has good pigmentation and staying power with a matte finish, but if your lips aren’t moisturized enough application is hard and patchy. It also fades unevenly. The scent is strong but the price cheap.
