Name: Long Lasting Colour Lip Marker in Dark Rose
From Kiko’s website:
Innovative no-transfer lip marker with extra long-lasting wear. Its fluid texture dries in just a few seconds, leaving a lightweight film on lips that feels like a second skin. Its maxi-sized felt tip traces the contours of the lips with the desired colour intensity, for an effect that goes from sheer to full.
What I liked:
– matte finish
– dries fast
– lasts about 4 hours on the lips
– easy to remove
– lovely fruity scent
– the packaging
– the price
What I didn’t like:
– not very pigmented
– drying, needs to be used with a lip balm on top
– it fades unevenly when you eat
– if you have pigmented lips, dark rose won’t show up well on you
Out of all the gorgeous products in the Kiko Kaleidoscopic Optical Look spring collection, the Long Lasting Colour Lip Markers were the ones that intrigued me the most. Lip stains are still a new thing in Italy so I was really excited to see a drugstore brand release this kind of product at an affordable price. However, after playing with one of the 8 shades available for about 3 weeks now, I have to say I’m not really impressed with it. The product itself is not that bad, just your regular lip stain, it’s just the shade I picked that I really dislike.
The shade I have is called Dark Rose. It is a pinkish brown shade with a matte finish and, when I tried the tester on the back of my hand in the store, I was impressed with its good pigmentation. But on the lips, the color payoff is really poor. Dark Rose is just slightly darker than my natural lip color and on me, it looks like I have nothing on. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love soft and subtle colors on my lips.
After all, I often wear bold eye makeup so I like to use softer, natural shades on the lips to keep the focus on the eye and avoid looking like a mask, but Dark Rose looks invisible on me! If I wanted to look like I’m wearing nothing on my lips, then I wouldn’t have bothered wearing anything at all. Just look at the swatch below to see what I mean. You’re probably wondering if I have, by mistake, uploaded a picture of my bare lips, but no, that’s how a few layers of Dark Rose look on me. Disappointing, isn’t it?
However, while I have no use for Dark Rose, I’m still interested in trying some of the other brighter shades, like the fuchsia or red ones. But I’ll just wait for them to go on sale. 😉 The stain itself has a liquid consistency that dries in minutes and a lovely sweet, fruity scent. It is quite strong, but you can’t really smell it once on the lips so it doesn’t bother me.
I also like the packaging. It looks like a marker pen, which makes application easier, but of course, being a stain, your lips need to be in perfect condition to get a good effect. It feels very drying on the lips (but again, this is a problem with all lip stains), so you need to wear a lip balm on top of it to keep your lips soft and moisturized throughout the day.
The lip stains lasts about 4 hours on me, which isn’t bad at all for a lip product, but it disappear sooner if I have a proper meal. The main problem, though, is that it fades unevenly, making lips look patchy so, after a meal, it needs to be retouched. On the plus side, once it’s time to take it off, it is very easy to remove so you won’t have to pull or tug to get rid of the color.

Kiko Long Lasting Colour Lip Marker is a liquid lip stain that dries instantly, lasts about 4 hours if you don’t at (but fades unevenly), has a lovely fruity scent and is easy to remove. However, the shade I have, Dark Rose, is poorly pigmented and looks too natural, like you have nothing on. It is also drying so you need to use a lip balm on top of it.
