Name: Boss Bottled
Brand: Hugo Boss
What I liked:
– spicy woody scent with a fruity vibe
– because the scent is sweet, it can be used by women too
– good sillage and staying power
– simple and elegant bottle
What I didn’t like:
– not particularly original, nor remarkable
Do you ever steal your men’s perfume? I do sometimes. I like how deep, dark and mysterious masculine scents can be, but I also understand why a lot of women prefer to stay away from them, opting for something sweeter instead. If that’s you, I’ve found a sweeter scent that you can “borrow” from your partner: Boss Bottled by Hugo Boss. It’s neither an original nor a remarkable scent, but it smells lovely, and it’s great option for those couples who want to smell the same.
Boss Bottled opens with a heavy blast of sweet apples with a spicy cinnamon kick, while in the background bergamot provides a fresh and citrusy vibe. Pretty soon, the fragrance becomes lighter. An indistinct floral bouquet, which is made up, according to the official notes, of tagete and geranium (they’re so closely blended together that my nose can’t distinctly pick them up) arrives on the stage, but clove, together with cinnamon, keep the composition spicy and warm, and prevent it from becoming sweet to the point that it will repel men rather than attract them.
The scent doesn’t change that much in the drydown. It’s more woody and powdery, but you can still smell both cinnamon and the last whiffs of apples. The notes are all well balances so that, at no stage, the sweetness veers too much into either the masculine or the feminine ends of the spectrum. Instead, it always remains firmly into neutral territory.
Boss Bottled is thick and warm, making it more appropriate for the cold winter months. It’s very casual too. You could easily wear it for an afternoon of shopping with your friends, to play sports or to attend lectures at uni, but I would avoid it on a date. It’s just not sexy. So, beware if you plan to go on one. This fragrance, which projects wells without being annoying, lasts forever. If you apply it in the morning, it will still be there in the evening, even if you don’t want it to.
