From Nordstrom’s website:
Introducing Cils d’Enfer – Maxi Lash, the mascara that creates just the right volume in the blink of an eye for a look that instantly captivates. Featuring an innovative formula for maximum volume curl and hold, experience astonishing volume and staggering curl.
What I liked:
– lengthens and separates lashes well
– can hold a curl for most of the day
– coats eyelashes with an intense black pigment
– provides a dramatic, but not over-the-top look
– lasts all day without smudging nor flaking
– smells of roses
– luxurious packaging
What I didn’t like:
– it thickens lashes, but not so much to provide a false lashes look
– if you apply more than one coat, it’ll clump
– the price
If someone had asked me a month ago if I wanted hellish lashes, I’d have said no. I’m not really sure what that means, but I figured it must be something bad. Well, as it turns out, I was wrong. At least, according to Guerlain’s definition of hellish lashes. Their Cils D’Enfer (lashes from hell) mascara promises to thicken, lengthen, separate and curl lashes. In a nutshell, to do everything. But does it deliver?
Cils D’Enfer has a lovely formula that’s neither too dry nor too wet and glides nicely and smoothly on the lashes, coating them with an intense black pigment. It lengthens really well and keeps the curl in place for most of the day. But it doesn’t volumize as well as I had hoped.
Don’t get me wrong. This mascara gives pretty dramatic results, just not the false lashes look I thought it would (although it comes close to it). One coat thickens the lashes somewhat, but to get some real volume you’d have to apply a second one. Only that when you do so, it starts to clump. Still, the wand separates the lashes fairly well, and not everyone would want to apply a second coat anyway.
One coat may not provide over-the-top drama, but it will definitely get your lashes noticed. This not a mascara for those who are looking for a natural daytime look. And you’d better like the look it gives your lashes, because once the mascara’s on, it’s on. Cils D’Enfer dries rapidly and stays put for the whole day without any smudging nor flaking whatsoever. Pretty impressive, huh? When it’s time to remove it, it easily comes off with a bilayer make remover.
Oh, and do you know how mascaras usually smell strongly of gasoline? This one doesn’t. It smells of roses. Yes, roses. How nice is that? Of course, you can’t smell anything once the mascara is on your lashes, but it’s really nice not to have your nose bombarded with that foul petrol scent every time you pull out the wand.
Seriously, who knew that hellish lashes could look and smell this good?
Guerlain Cils D’Enfer coats lashes with an intense black pigment, lengthens, separates and thicken them, and holds a curl for most of the day. The result is a fairly dramatic look that’s not over-the-top. In addition, it lasts long without smudging. However, one coat alone doesn’t provide a lot of volume, and if you try to build it up, it’ll clump.
