Name: Kajal pencil in Teddy
From Essence’s website:
Thanks for its longlasting formula, this kajal pencil will give your eyes a more than special touch.
What I liked:
– beautiful shade, perfect for everyday
– glides on smoothly, no tugging
– not brittle
– the price
What I didn’t like:
– not very longlasting, unless you use a primer
You know me, I’m a cheapskate. I can easily pass up the Dior counter without a second glance, but when a new inexpensive brand opens up a counter here I can’t help to get excited. And when late last April, I went into my local shop to find out they had finally added an Essence stand, I had to restrain myself from squealing and jumping around like a mad woman! (Yes, it doesn’t take much to make me happy lol).
Once I managed to calm down, I had a proper look and purchased a few things. The one I liked the most was the Kajal Pencil in Teddy, a beautiful brown shade with reddish shimmers that is very wearable and safe for every day, yet the color isn’t boring and adds a nice glowy touch to your eyes.
The pencil has a very creamy texture that glides on like a dream (no tugging at all!), leaving an even and opaque line on the eye. And because it is very pigmented, there is no need to layer it to get decent color payoff. Also, it isn’t brittle and it doesn’t break easily when you sharpen it, which can easily happen with some cheap eyeliners.
I’ve used the color both on my lids and waterline and it was very gentle and didn’t irritate my eyes. It didn’t smudge nor smear but it didn’t stay put for the entire day either. The pencil claims to be long-lasting but sadly, I found that’s not that case. Not only it disappears fast from my waterline (not too bothered about that as most eyeliners don’t last long there), it completely fades from my lids after only a couple of hours if I’m not wearing a primer.
I was gutted about that as my lids are just slightly oily, but I guess for the price (which you just can’t beat), I shouldn’t complain too much. You still get a creamy and pigmented pencil that only needs an eyeshadow base to last all day. I’m already planning to get this in other colors and I have my eyes on the neon yellow shade (not a shade you come across often!).
Overall, I love Essence Kajal Pencil in Teddy. It is a creamy and pigmented pencil that glides on smoothly. Unfortunately it doesn’t last long on its own but the problem can easily be fixed by wearing a primer underneath. Oh, and it’s very cheap too!
