Name: Bamboo 6 Piece Brush Set
From Ecotools website:
This iconic EcoTools set is what started it all! Whether you want to hide imperfections, define eyes and brows, or create a rosy glow, our set of five beautiful and incredibly soft brushes is the perfect start to your makeup routine. Brushes feature bamboo handles, recycled aluminum ferrules and incredibly soft, cruelty-free bristles.
What I liked:
– bristles are very soft, dense and don’t shed
– all the brushes do their job well
– blush brush picks up a good amount of product and can be used both for blushes and powders
– eyeliner brush is versatile
– eye shader brush works very well with cream products
– handy to travel with
– the price
What I didn’t like:
– eye shader brush doesn’t pick up a lot of pigment when used with powder eyeshadow
– concealer brush may be too big to work in small areas
– the comb teeth of the lash and brow groomer brush look flimsy and may break off (although this hasn’t happened to me yet)
After years of lusting after Ecotools brushes, I had almost given up hope of ever being able to get my hands on them, when finally they became available in Europe too. Around Christmas time, I nagged, casually hinted to my boyfriend how much I would like to try them. And on Christmas day, I found the Ecotools Bambo 6 Piece Brush Set carefully wrapped under my Christmas tree. Yay! (Thanks Mr BWB!).
I wanted to wait a while before writing this review so that I would have the time to see not only how the brushes work, but also how they withstand frequent washing. And now, it’s time to report. The brushes all have very soft bristles and if I didn’t know they were synthetic, I never would have guessed it. Yes, they are that soft. They also don’t shed nor bleed and my brushes are all still in pristine condition after months of regular use and washing. Let’s see what brushes this set contains:
The Blush Brush is my favourite brush from this set. Just like all the other brushes in the set, the bristles are dense but very soft to the touch so don’t scratch skin at all and don’t shed. It picks up a good amount of pigment and blends it like a dream. Because of the big size of the bristles, I find that it works well at applying powder too, but when washed, it takes more than a day to dry.
The Eye Shader Brush has flat, dense bristles that are soft and don’t shed. It is also quite big for an eyeshadow brush. However, the bristles don’t really pick up that much powder so I have to apply two or three layers of eyeshadow to get the intensity I want. It works a lot better with cream eyeshadows, though, picking up a good amount of product when used to apply them.
The Eyeliner Brush is an angled brush and quite versatile. At first I was a bit worried that the softness of the bristles would make eyeliner application difficult, but I shouldn’t have worried at all. I find it does its job well, making it easy to create both thin and thick lines. It can also be used to apply brow powder on your brows and it never makes you look overdone. Because of its shape, I also use it to apply eyeshadows on the outer corner of the eyes or on the lower lashline.
The Lash And Brow Groomer Brush is not a brush I use often but I find it does its job ok. The comb part is very helpful at separating lashes if your mascara clumps them together and, although the teeth seem quite flimsy, they haven’t broken off, at least not yet. The bristle part are soft, although not very flexible, groom brows well and don’t shed.
The Concealer Brush also has bristles that are soft to the touch, densely-packed together, don’t scratch and so is perfect for the delicate under eye area. However, it is also a pretty big brush so it might be too big to use it to conceal small areas. I use it mainly to apply it on my under eye area to cover my dark circles and for that, it works well. It picks up the right amount of product too to provide good coverage without looking cakey or unnatural and blends it well.
The set I have also includes with a mirror. I don’t have much to say about it (it’s just a mirror really). It is round and big so you can see what you are doing and has two suckers on the back so you can stick it up wherever you want, which is very handy as it means you’ll have both your hands free to apply makeup.
Ecotools brushes are also eco-friendly and cruelty-free. The synthetic bristles are made of taklon, the handles of bamboo and the ferrules of recycled aluminum. They also come with their cosmetic brush rool, which is made from natural cloth and hemp, and it’s perfect to store your brushes when travelling. Overall, this is a really wonderful set but, especially if you have a lot of brushes already, ask yourself if you really need all the brushes in it. If you are only gonna use two or three of them, then it may be cheaper to purchase them separately.
The Ecotools Bamboo 6 Piece Brush Set is a wonderful, eco-friendly, perfect to travel with and affordable brush set that includes a blush brush, a concealer brush, an eye shader brush, an eyeliner brush and a lash and brow groomer brush (my set also contains a mirror). The brushes all have soft but dense and tapered bristles that don’t scratch skin nor shed. They all do their job well and the blush and eyeliner brushes are quite versatile. The concealer brush is perfect to apply concealer on your dark circles but may be too big to work in smaller areas, while the eye shader brush works better with cream than powder products.
