Brand: Calvin Klein
What I liked:
– warm, not too sweet fruity floral scent
– good sillage and staying power
What I didn’t like:
– not particularly original
– bottle is ugly
I usually can’t tolerate mainstream floral fruity scents. One: they all smell the same. Two: they are tootachingly sweet. Calvin Klein Euphoria, though, is slightly different. In a good way. Although not particularly original, it is vaguely dark and bitter, and it doesn’t make you smell like you’ve been eating candy all day, which is always a plus for me.
Euphoria opens with a too sweet burst of pomegranate and persimmon enriched by a “lush green accord” that, despite smelling slightly synthetic, adds a nice freshness to the composition. I absolutely hated this stage and was ready to dismiss the rest too, but its development pleasantly surprised me. Pretty soon, the scent turns into a rich floral bouquet (I can smell the orchid and the violet, but not the champaca flower). The fruits are still present, but have now become subtle and indistinct. The drydown is a warm and sultry blend of cream and amber laced in patchouli and musk.
Euphoria is a luminous, voluptuous, slightly dark and almost gourmand scent that will appeal to younger women. It’s quite rich, though, so use only one or two sprays or you may get a headache. Even that way, it’s too rich for the summer and not suitable for the office, but it’d be very appropriate for a date or for an afternoon of shopping with friends, when the weather gets just a bit cooler. And once on the skin, it lingers there for about 8 hours before it starts to fade.
Although the fragrance is quite pleasant, especially for a mainstream fruity floral composition, I hate the bottle. It looks nice in the promo photos, but in real life, it’s really, really ugly. It has a weird curvacious shape, which doesn’t make it very easy to hold. The front and back are made of metal, which just makes it look cheap. I don’t know what they were thinking when they designed it. I guess they wanted something original that stood out among the crowd, This does, but this time, in a really bad way.
Calvin Klein Euphoria is a rich, luminous, vaguely dark and not too sweet fruity floral scent that lasts about 8 hours on the skin. However, the scent, albeit lovely, is not particularly original, and the bottle is ugly.
