Name: Buxom Insider Eyeliner in Onyx
Brand: Bare Escentuals
From Bare Escentuals’ website:
The rich, velvety twist-up pencil liner glides on ultra smooth to deliver the perfect line without tugging.
What I liked:
– sleek and shiny packaging, comes with an in-built pencil sharpener
– good colour payoff
– very creamy texture, glides on smoothly without tugging
– can be easily smudged to create smokey looks
– gentle, can be used on the waterline
What I didn’t like:
– poor staying power, smudges and fades after only a few hours
Like a magpie, I’m attracted to beautiful shiny things, like pearls, mirrors… and Bare Escentuals Buxom Insider Eyeliner. The sleek and stylish silver pencil doesn’t only look beautiful, but it is also practical. It houses a retractable, twist-up eyeliner, and an in-built sharpener, which I have to admit it took me a while to discover.
You see the little black part at the end of the pencil? At first I thought it was only decorative, but no. You can remove it and out pops the in-built-sharpener! How convenient is that? It’s also very travel-friendly as it allows you to easily sharpen it whenever you need to, wherever you are.
The eyeliner is available in 8 shades, all inspired by precious gems. I received, (from my friend Janessa who likes to spoil me rotten 🙂 ), Onyx, a black shade that’s not too dark. Some people may be disappointed by this, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing, as it means it’s not too harsh to define your eyes for subtler daytime looks. And it can easily be built up if you want more intensity. However, while the colour may lack vibrancy, it doesn’t lack pigmentation. One coat is all you need to deliver a precise, opaque line.
And because the texture is so creamy, it glides smoothly on the lid. There’s no tugging at all. It is also very easy to smudge if you want to create a soft smokey look. Unfortunately, the creaminess also means the eyeliner is prone to smudging throughout the day. On my slightly only lids, it holds up for about 3 hours before it starts to smudge and fade, while on the waterline it lasts about one.
Staying power is not its strongest point at all, but it can be improved by applying a primer on the lid before lining your eyes. On the waterline, instead, you can set it with a black eyeshadow. Even with these tricks, I’m still a bit worried about how well it’s gonna fare in the summer. I think this is more of a winter eyeliner. In any case, the in-built sharpener makes touch-ups on-the-go very easy.
