What I didn’t like:
– if you don’t like patchouli, this isn’t for you
I love simple scents. I really do. As long as they’re well done and don’t cost an arm and a leg. Like Acqua Di Profumo Patchouli by Acque Imperiali, an Italian fragrance and sunscreen brand I discovered last summer. Like the name implies, it is an eau de toilette that smells like patchouli.
Patchouli, a member of the mint family, is a perennial bush with white-pink flowers. It derives its name from paccilai, a Tamil word that means “green leaf”. Widely used in perfumes, this note is usually either loved or hated by women. That’s because it has an earthy, dark and rich smell that can often feel overwhelming and too strong. That’s especially true for women who are into delicate floral or candy gourmand concoctions.
Patchouli is a very nuanced and interesting note. It has green, herbaceous, woody-balsamic and, when well-aged, even fruity facets. And it’s very persistent too, which is why it is often used as a base note in perfumes. That’s also the reason why this eau de toilette has incredible staying power. Eight hours later, I can still smell it on my skin.
And yet, it’s not so strong to bother those around you. It doesn’t stay too close to the skin either. It just has the right sillage. And it’s packaged in a practical roll-on that you can easily take everywhere with you. If you love patchouli, or simply want to know what it smells like, then give Acqua Di Profumo Patchouli a try. You might even end up falling in love with this note after all.
