If there’s one makeup trend I never got on board with is the nude lip. Yeah, yeah, it’s timeless. And classy. And dead boring! On me, more dead than boring. My pale skin already makes me look like a walking dead most of the time. I don’t need any lipglosses giving it a helping hand.
Laura Mercier Lip Glacé in Blush doesn’t do that (phew!). The light pink with brown undertones and a super shiny finish makes me lips look like they are naturally blushing.
It’s one of those barely-there, my-lips-but-better shades that subtly enhances the complexion. Ditto for the shiny finish. It brightens up my face, and helps my lips look slightly bigger.
Free of shimmers, Blush is perfect for any daytime occasion, even the office. But I wear it at night too. It looks great when paired with a dark and mysterious smoky eyes look.
Colour payoff is just right. Not so sheer to be invisible (am I the only one who thinks pricey lipglosses should be seen, or you’re throwing money away?), but not super pigmented either. You can always build it up, if you want more intensity.
And no, that won’t make your lips feel all sticky and gross. Laura Mercier Lip Glacé in Blush has a slightly thicker texture than most glosses, but it never feels tacky. Quite comfortable on the lips, it moisturizes them for a couple of hours.
Then, the moisture disappears, together with the colour. Blush is as fleeting as a… well, blush. It lasts so little on the lips, and fades even faster if I eat or drink.
I can’t be bothered to touch up my gloss every couple of hours, so I don’t wear Blush as often as I’d like. But maybe you have more patience than me, and don’t mind that.
You know what else I mind? The scent. It’s sugary vanilla. Way too sweet for my taste. I love vanilla, but when it is subtle and sophisticated. This is more girly and smells like one of those syrupy celeb fragrances. So not my thing.
Thankfully, it doesn’t last long on the lips. I only smell it when I apply it (another reason why I don’t touch it up often), and then never again.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Pro: Natural, my-lips-but-better shade; Shiny finish brightens up the face and makes lips look fuller; Sheer but buildable; Comfortable, non-sticky texture.
Cons: Average staying power; Scent is too sweet for my taste.
Summary: Laura Mercier Lip Glacé in Blush is a sheer, but buildable, my-lips-but-better-shade that brightens up the face and makes lips look a bit fuller. But it lasts so little!
