Name: Creme Smooth Lipstick in Red Amour
Brand: Laura Mercier
From Laura Mercier’s website:
A luxurious lipstick that gives lips the ultimate in colour, texture, and finish. In one smoothing swipe, the crème formula envelops lips in rich colour with a semi-lustrous finish. The cushiony, lightweight texture feels comfortable, while pure Olive Oil and Vitamin E nourish lips. Longwearing formula (6 hours to 8 hours), does not bleed or feather; does not dry or fade; does not set into lip lines.
What I liked:
– bright warm red
– very pigmented
– feels comfortable on
What I didn’t like:
– texture isn’t as creamy as other high-end lippies (but I’m nitpicking)
– packaging is a magnet for fingertips
Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lipstick in Red Amour is a total magnet. Both for hearts and fingertip. The sleek, shiny tube attracts them like crazy. If you’re a stickler for cleanliness, beware. This will annoying the hell out of you. But if you are willing to put up with that, prepare to fall in love.
Although it is described as a true, neutral red, Red Amour is warm-toned, and so more flattering on warm complexions. It’s also vibrant. Very shiny. And as juicy as a ripe tomato. It’s the perfect red for the hot season. It goes well with a tan and makes your pout stand out.
Of course, application requires some commitment. Like all intense, highly pigmented reds, it can’t be applied straight from the tube. Well, actually it can, but it’s tough to be precise that way. You may end up looking like a clown. Or an Alexander McQueen sex doll. Or both.
Much better to use a brush (and a lipliner to draw the edges). It’s more time-consuming that way, but less dangerous. At least you don’t need that much product. Red Amour is so pigmented that the tiniest hint of it goes a long, long way.
Red Amour is committed to your lips too. Although the shine disappears pretty soon, the gorgeous tomato red stays around a lot longer. It’s true that it begins to fade after a couple of hours. And it transfers when you eat or drink.
But it doesn’t go away. Throughout the day, it just morphs into an ever subtler stain that’s much easier to wear. Thankfully, it’s even, so reapplication isn’t needed. I touch it up only about after six hours or so. Color me impressed.
Oh, and did I mention how smoothly it glides on the lips? Although it’s not as buttery as my beloved Lancome lippies, Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lipstick in Red Amour is creamy and applies nicely, without tugging nor pulling. It doesn’t bleed either.
Red Amour feels comfortable on the lips, keeping them hydrated for a couple of hours. Then, I add a thin layer of lip balm, even though it doesn’t really feel drying. I guess I do it out of habit. I’m addicted to lip balms too.
Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lipstick in Red Amour is a shiny, vibrant, and pigmented tomato red that stays put for hours, slowly morphing into a subtle shade. Creamy and hydrating, it glides smoothly on the lips.
