What it is
Mexoryl SX, also called Ecamsule or Terephthalylidine Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid, is an ingredient developed and patented by L’Oreal.
What it does
Mexoryl SX is a synthetic sunscreen agent that protects against UVA rays, which can cause wrinkles and may contribute to skin cancer. It works by transforming UV radiation into heat.
Mexoryl SX is more stable than avonbenzone, but still degrades when exposed to the sun.
Just like any other sunscreen agent, Mexoryl SX degrades when exposed to sunlight, so it’s necessary to reapply your sunscreen regularly, especially if you’re spending time outdoors.
In addition, Ecamsule doesn’t block the entire UV range, so it should be used in conjunction with other sunscreen ingredients to provide broad-spectrum protection.
Mexoryl SX can cause skin irritation and dermatitis in some people.
