Last month, we talked about the expiration dates of our cosmetic products. They provide just an indication, though. If properly stored, it is likely that your products will last even longer. Here are a few tips to help you:
The key to storing cosmetics correctly is to keep them away from humidity, moisture, heat and sudden temperature changes. All these things can change the formula, which could then become a breeding ground for bacteria. Instead, store your products in a cool, dry environment.
That’s why you should avoid the bathroom. I used to keep my stash in there until I realised that the constant changes in humidity and heat everytime someone takes a bath or a shower could affect, negatively, the products. Instead, keep them in another room. Mine are now in my bedroom.
A good place to store your makeup is a cosmetic cooler (pictures above). It shields cosmetics from dirt and bacteria with a self-adjusting temperature and optimal humidity settings. I’ve been craving one for a while now, but I haven’t taken the plunge and purchased it yet because they can be quite expensive.
Luckily, we all have a cheaper alternative at home: the fridge. Keepingyour products in there prolongs their shelf-life, and makes your makeup last longer and not melt away. Plus, when you apply your lotions, they feel so cool and pleasant on your skin, especially during these hot summer days.
