I thought I knew what oily hair was. Then, I moved to London. Maybe it’s the pollution in the air. Maybe it’s the cold winter stripping more moisture than usual from my locks. But since I’m here, I’m really struggling to keep my hair clean and grease-free for more than a few hours.
I’ll wash it in the morning, and by evening, it’s a greasy mess again! After throwing my old and trusted shampoo and conditioner in the bin (clearly, they’re not working anymore), I set out to find some replacement.
That’s when I’ve come across Hask Argan Oil from Morocco Collection. It features shampoo, conditioners, and a shine treatment destined to strengthen, condition, and repair damaged hair.
A couple of them do wonders for oily hair as well. Since using them, my hair is in much better shape, and doesn’t need to be washed so often. Finally!
Let’s take a look at them all, shall we?
Housed in a tall and slim bottle, The Repairing Shampoo has a lightweight, but not runny, consistency that produces a good lather. It cleanses hair well, removing dirt and impurities without stripping it of the natural oils it needs to stay healthy and moisturized.
Frankly, I was surprised by that. It contains sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate, which is a quite harsh (hence very effective) cleansing agent. But, I suppose, the rest of the formula helps tame its potential side effects.
Apart from argan oil, it contains cocamidopropyl betaine, another, but much gentler, detergent, and glycerin, a humectant that attracts moisture into the hair to help keep it soft. Thanks to them, my hair never feels like straw after washing. On the contrary, it’s very soft.
And clean. Since I’ve started using it, I’ve finally gone back to wash my hair every other day (sometimes, even every 2 days!). I can’t tell you how glad I am of that! And then, there’s the shine. The shampoo adds a little to my hair.
It also smells gorgeous! Like all the other products in the line, the shampoo is infused with a subtle and zesty citrusy scent that always reminds me of clear summer days. They feel a bit closer every time I use it.
Since my hair became oilier than usual, I’ve started skipping conditioner. Bad move. My hair gets knotty so easily, and, without it, it’s impossible to untangle and style. Hask Argan Oil Repairing Conditioner came to the rescue.
Although it has a thick and rich consistency, it leaves my hair soft and moisturized without making it more oily or weighting it down.
Rather than heavy silicones, it uses a mixture of cetyl alcohol, cetrimonium chloride, and behentrimonium chloride. I know that doesn’t sound much better, does it? But despite their complicated, mysterious names, these substances are safe, and do a wonderful job at conditioning hair.
They coat every strand, making their surface smoother so that it better reflects light. Hello, shine! They also reduce frizz and flyaways. I never experienced any since I’ve started using this conditioner.
My only problem is the packaging. The tall and sleek bottle, which takes up so little space on my bathroom shelf, is pretty much identical to that of the shampoo. If I’m not careful, I can so easily pick up the wrong bottle!
The Intense Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment is my least favourite product from the line. It’s very similar to the Repairing Conditioner. The first three ingredients are the same (water, cetyl alcohol, and cetrimonium chloride), but, rather than behentrimonium chloride, it contains lanolin, a substance sheep produce to waterproof their wool and keep warm in winter.
That makes the deep conditioner much richer than the Repairing Conditioner. In a way, that’s good. If you have dry, straw-like hair that’s been damaged by cold weather, harsh chemical processes (like dying and perming), and overuse of styling tools, this’ll help strengthen, soften, and revitalize it.
But, if like me, your hair is super oily, this could make things worse. I massaged the smallest amount on the lengths of my hair (it’s so thick you don’t really need that much), and waited 10 minutes before rinsing it off, like the instructions recommend.
Afterwards, my hair was softer and shinier indeed, but it also felt heavy and limp. On the plus side, it sealed my split ends, making them invisible to the naked eye. Even so, it’s not something I’d recommend to my fellow oily-haired gals.
I also have a problem with the packaging. I don’t understand why they put it in a non-resealable packet. There are 50g of product in there, so, unless your hair is as long as Rapunzel’s, it’s gonna last you multiple times. I wish they’d put it in a big jar (I doubt the rich consistency would come out of a tube well). It’d make both application and storage that much easier.
The Healing Shine Hair Treatment, instead, is my fave product from the collection. If you can only get one thing, make it this one.
It contains the highest concentration of argan oil and keratin protein (the stuff hair is made of), so it’s very moisturizing. Just a few drops are enough to make hair soft, super shiny, and flyaway free.
Very versatile, it can be used both on wet and dry hair. I usually apply it after shampoo instead of conditioner. I find this combination is already moisturizing enough for my oily hair, and makes it look amazing for a couple of days.
But, if I’m in a rush and don’t have time to wash my hair, I’ll massage the oil throughout my strands. It revives it, boosts its shine, and makes it so manageable and easy to style.
The serum comes in a small 18ml tube. That’s my only problem with it. The packaging is pretty and practical enough, but I wish it contained a lot more product. I want enough to be able to bathe in it!
I highly recommend the entire range to everyone with dry, damaged hair that needs extra care and conditioning. If you have oily hair, try the shampoo and the shine treatment. They’re enough to make your hair look great for a couple of days. You’ll notice the difference after just one single use!
