Do you have tattoos?
I’ve always wanted one but:
1. They are done with needles. Ouch!
2. I’m fickle. There’s nothing I’d like tattooed on my skin for more than a couple of weeks. And even that’d probably be too long.
3. Regret. Even if I came up with something, how do I know I won’t regret it later on? I don’t want to be stuck with an eternal reminder of a time I’d rather forget.
That’s why I love fake tattoos so much. With them, I can rock a different tattoo every week. With absolutely no pain. And no downtime.
Today, for example, I’m sporting a cute green bird on my lower back. The past week, blue feathers on my wrists. They’re both part of the Glimmer Body Art Cosmetics Luxe Watercolor Tattoos in Free Spirit.
Free Spirit Set
The Free Spirit set contains 2 sheets with about 20 tattoos, all in different shapes, sizes, and colours. They feature hearts, bows, and inspiring mantras, like “live, laugh, love,” and “born to fly”, which yours truly stupidly put on upside down. 😳
The quote tattoos are my favourites. A quick, accidental glance at them is enough to inspire me to be more carefree, take a chance, and enjoy life. Be a free spirit.
They are a little hard to read, especially the smaller ones. They’re written in the opposite direction, so they can look right once applied on the skin. To decipher what they say, simply hold them up in front of a mirror. Or, easier yet, check the pictures at the back of the box.
All the tattoos are hand-painted, water-colour inspired, and look really realistic on. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think someone hand-painted them on me while I was sleeping!
I didn’t manage to fool all my friends. They know I’m too scared of needles to seriously consider getting a real tattoo. But those who didn’t know me that well were easier to trick. Either way, they all liked my tattoos.
I like to wear them mostly on my wrists, arms, and lower back. That’s where I’d get a real tattoo, should I ever become adventurous enough to even consider it. The wrists and arms, so that I could look at them whenever I wanted to. The lower back, instead, just seems the perfect place for a big tattoo to me. There’s so much space there!
How To Apply Them
These tattoos are really easy to apply. They don’t require any complicated procedure because of the watercolour effect. Instead, after making sure your skin is free of oil and makeup, you just have to:
1. Cut out the desired tattoo and remove the clear protective sheet.
2. Press the tattoo firmly onto the skin with the design facing down (I didn’t read this part properly the first time, hence why I applied the quote upside down. Ahem…).
3. Hold a wet cloth, pressing firmly, against the back of the tattoo for about 30 seconds.
4. Let the paper backing glide off the skin and gently blot out excess water with a tissue.
Voilà. In just 30 seconds, I got a brand new tattoo. And it didn’t hurt at all!
How To Remove Them
When I get tired of my Glimmer tattoos, I can easily take them off. All I have to do is soak them with household rubbing alcohol or baby oil for 10 seconds, and then gently rub them away with a cotton ball.
Although, if I’ve been wearing a tattoo long enough, it comes away with just soap and water. I rocked the little feathers on my wrists for around a week, and, by the end of it, the colour had badly faded, and the tattoo had cracked in places.
But then, these are temporary tattoos. They’re not designed to last long on the skin. I just really fell in love with that particular design, or I’d have removed it much earlier.
Overall, I love Glimmer Watercolor Tattoos in Free Spirit. They’re easy to apply, fun to wear, and don’t disappear at the first contact with water.
And, if you don’t like them, you can easily remove them. But, with so much choice and sets available (Glimmer also makes metallic ones, which will be perfect for upcoming Christmas parties), it’s impossible not to find something you love. They may even inspire you to get a real tattoo!
