Are you team lipstick or team lipgloss?
I used to be firmly in the lipgloss camp, but these days, I don’t know anymore.
I still totally dig the shine of a gloss, but there’s something to be said for the intensity and sophistication of a lipstick too.
So, when I’m in front of my vanity wondering what the heck to wear that day, I just reach for a liquid lipstick. These babies have all the intensity of a lipstick with the shine of a gloss. Best of both worlds.
The newest addition to my makeup collection is Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Bold Liquid Lipstick in Passionate Peach.
You can totally tell this was sent to me by PR, right? It’s the peach that gives it away. While I may be obsessed with my peachy pink shades (especially when they’re full of golden shimmers – so lovely!), purer peach shades aren’t the most flattering on me. They tend to bring out the yellow hues in my skin. Bummer!
Luckily for me, Passionate Peach does it only slightly. I guess that’s cos the colour is so muted and has lovely pinkish undertones that save the day for my face. Phew!
Plus, it’s not too intense. Bold peach shades scare me. Really. I don’t think we’ll ever get along. But this one is quite subtle.
Don’t get me wrong. The pigmentation is there. The intensity, not so much. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It just makes it easier to wear, that’s all.
And did I mention the shine? That’s there, too.
The applicator is kinda cool. It’s not your usual doe-footer. There’s a sponge on the tip that helps the colour glide on the lips oh-so-smoothly (but tends to soak up a bit too much product – nothing’s perfect, I guess).
If you’re wondering how to get the colour onto the sponge, here’s the trick: just push the lever of the pen up and you end up with enough colour for one application (yep, this lippie is more high-tech than me). If you’re blessed with thick lips or dig a more intense look, push that level up twice.
If your lips are dry, I’d suggest you apply a thin layer of lip balm first. Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Bold Liquid Lipstick isn’t drying. But it’s not particularly moisturizing either.
It has that somewhere-in-between texture that’s creamy and lovely on soft lips but feels drier and emphasizes flaky patches on dry lips.
Passionate Peach also isn’t the most longlasting shade in the collection. On me, it lasts about 2 hours, which is average. Needless to say, if I eat or drink, it disappears sooner.
Even though it wasn’t love at first sight with Passionate Peach, I still like the formula enough to check out the other shades in the line. There are 8, ranging from nudes to pinks to reds.
I have my eye on something bolder. Maybe a bright fuchsia, what do you say?
