When I moved to London, I had to fit all my belongings into a small trolley and bag. I could only bring the essentials with me. That meant no irons. Not even a tiny, portable steamer.
I tried doing without one, but that wrinkled, too-lazy-to-iron-my-clothes look wasn’t exactly the image I wanted to project to the world. So, I had to get creative, and come up with quick and easy ways to de-wrinkle clothes without an iron.
Here are my favourites:
1. Take A Shower
The oldest trick in the book, and the most pleasant. All you have to do is hang your wrinkled clothes in your bathroom and then take a long, hot shower. By the time you’ve finished, the steam will have smoothed out all the wrinkles. Just remember to close the door and windows shut, or the steam will escape!
2. Put The Kettle On
This is the English version of the shower method. The concept’s the same, but on a smaller scale (you’re not steaming a whole room). That’s why it works better for smaller creases.
Just put the kettle on and, when the water is boiling, hold it about a foot away from your wrinkled garment. It’ll loosen them up quickly.
3. Blow It
This is the easiest, and so my favourite, method to get rid of wrinkles. Dampen the wrinkled parts of the garment with water and then blow-dry it. Hold the blowdryer about two inches away, and make sure it’s on low heat. It’ll melt all your wrinkles away without ruining your clothes.
4. Sleep On It
I don’t remember where I heard this tip from, but I gave it a go out of curiosity. I was sceptical, but it actually works! Take your wrinkled piece of clothing, and roll it up like a burrito. Put it under your mattress at night, and sleep on it. When you wake up, most of the wrinkles are gone.
5. Straighten It Up
Your hair straightener isn’t just for your hair. You can use it to de-wrinkle collars, hems, and cuffs too (it won’t work for a whole dress, sorry!). Just clean it up first. You don’t want your heat protectant to end up on your just-washed shirt.
Now, if only getting rid of facial wrinkles were that easy!
