Would you like to be able to create any shade of nail polish under the sun at home?
Thought so. Well, thanks to Palette London now you can. This innovative brand, founded by Tajinder Banwait, founder of Urban Apothecary, has just released an artsy kit that will allow you to custom blend your own nail paint. Cool, huh?
The Create Your Own Nail Palette Collection features five base colours – red, yellow, blue, white, and black -, 5 empty bottles, and 5 pipettes. You simply pick up the base colours you need with the pipettes, pour them into an empty bottle, and shake well for a couple of minutes. Easy peasy.
But a bit messy. Ok, very messy, if you are as clumsy as a bear (ahem…). That’s why I do it over a plastic tray or an old piece of fabric. Just use something you don’t mind staining, cos there’s gonna be spillage. At least, until you got the hang of it (I haven’t yet).
Don’t know what shades to create? No worries. The box comes with a colour chart with a few recipes to get you started. I couldn’t decide between the navy, the purple, and the olive green, so I made all three!
They all turned out to be sheer, so I need to apply 3 coats to get an opaque, smooth coverage. I’m not a happy bunny about that. When it comes to nail polish, I’m lazy. If one requires 2 coats, I rarely use it. 3? I just can’t be bothered. But that’s me. 3 coats may be standard for you.
Apart from that, I like the nail polishes. They’re glossy and last for three or four days before they start to chip. It depends on how hard you are on your nails. Of course, a top coat will help them last longer. And make them even glossier.
As much as I love the concept behind Create Your Own Nail Paint Collection, it’s not for me. I think this is a wonderful idea for the artsy types that love DIY, customizable, and personalized shades. But creating one is more time-consuming and messy than I expected. As a lazy bugger with no patience, buying a ready made nail polish is just easier for me.
Luckily, Palette London has their own collection of ready made nail polishes. Actually two. The Core Collection features 14 autumnal shades, like Damson Damsel, a dark plum, and Lilac Blush, a pale amethyst.
The Metallic & Glitter Collection, instead, is made up of 10 trendy shades in, you guessed it, metallic and glittery finishes. They feature classics like Antique Gold and Black Diamond, and more complex shades, like Mirror Ball, a sparkly crystal that reminds me of Cinderella’s glass slippers.
But what I’m truly in love with is the Bespoke Nail Polish service. If you can’t find a nail polish shade that exactly matches your bridesmaid dress, or that perfect shade in your head you have no idea how to create, call Palette London and they’ll make it just for you.
All you have to do is send them a swatch. This can be a piece of fabric, a paint chart, a crayon, or even a digital image. Two weeks later (one if you take advantage of the express service), you’ll have your shade delivered at your doorstep. The price? Only £75. That includes both a base and a top coat. Don’t need those? Then, you only pay £50.
In short, Palette London has something for everyone. Whether you’re the lazy kind who loves to buy gorgeous ready made nail polishes, the artsy type who loves to create her own beauty products, or the luxury-loving character who wants to treat herself to a bespoke polish, Palette London has you covered.
Which of their services will you indulge in first?
