It’s no secret that I’m a huge history geek but one thing that bothers me about history is that it is mostly about men, their deeds, their battles, their personalities… What about women? The history of women is often marginalized when not completely ignored. But wait, what’s to be said about women, I hear you ask? Didn’t women stay at home to take care of their husbands and children and nothing else? Not really. It is true that women had fewer options, but this doesn’t mean that all of them very happy to just be housewives. History is full of strong-willed, independent women who dared to defy the rules of society and live the life they chose.
Some fought for women to have rights, some became brilliant scientists or writers, some got stuck in politics and then there are also those who weren’t so lucky and lived a life of poverty and crime. All too often these women are only a brief mention in a book about the men in their lives so it’s great to have a blog dedicated to them.
