Can you workout without music?
I can’t. I tried, but l feel like giving up after 10 minutes. It’s just so boring.
But, when l put on the right tracks, l feel motivated and energized to get through my workout. Suddenly, it’s easy. And fun. That’s the power of music.
I have many songs on my playlist, but there are some l just have to listen to every time l workout. They’re great to get my heart pumping, and inspire me to be the best version of myself. All the time.
So here it is, my ultimate workout playlist:
1. Born This Way by Lady Gaga
I’m not a little monster, but I find this song so powerful and inspirational. It has a god rhythm for exercising, and reminds me there’s never a good excuse to discriminate anyone. Ever.
2. Defying Gravity from Wicked
Some may argue this isn’t up-tempo enough for a workout but I don’t care. It’s one of my favourite songs ever. Every time I hear it, it inspires me to follow my dreams, be myself in a world that wants me to conform, and, yes, finish that kick-ass workout too. It makes me feel invincible, like there’s nothing I can’t do.
3. Fighter by Christina Aguilera
A powerful up-tempo song, Fighter is great to get your pulse racing. And remind you never to give up, no matter how many challenges (and jerks) you’ll find along the way.
4. Hall Of Fame by The Script ft Will.I.Am
The perfect song to keep you pushing through that workout session, Hall Of Fame reminds us we should aspire to be more than just models and footballers (although, if those are your passions, follow them). When you find your true calling and dedicate yourself to it, you can truly accomplish anything. Even finish this workout.
5. I Lived by One Republic
Another powerful song with a powerful message. Live every day to the full. Don’t waste even a second. You won’t get it back. And that inspires me to get through the workout. Because, to do everything I want to do, I need to be healthy and energized.
6. So Much Better from Legally Blonde The Musical
I love Elle Woods. She’s proof that women can be beautiful with brains (sorry, couldn’t resist). This song is quite cheesy, but very catchy (any workout session needs a tune like this) and a great reminder that there’s more to life than looks and men. Challenge yourself, and you’ll be amazed by what you can achieve.
7. Fame from Fame The Musical
Every time I hear this song, I have to move my body. I can’t help it. It’s infectious. That’s what makes it so great for exercising.
8. Don’t Rain On My Parade from Funny Girl
Is any playlist ever complete without a bit of Barbra Streisand? Of course not. This song keeps me motivated during cardio workouts and reminds me l have to follow my dreams, no matter what the naysayers say.
9. We Are The Champions by Queen
This is the perfect way to end a workout session. You paid your dues, got through the workout, and now you can reap its rewards, champion. Well done!
