Every January, each of us has the chance to start anew. We vow to ditch those habits that aren’t working and adopt others that will serve us better. But by February 1st, we admit defeat. All those good intentions have completely vanished.
That’s why I rarely make resolutions. But I feel, beauty wise, I really got stuck in a rut last year. Maybe it’s just because the excitement of the new year is still high, but I feel ready to try something new and be more adventurous. So, I’m making a few resolutions.
I don’t think I could keep a lot of them, so I just came up with three to fix what’s been bugging me the most lately. Here they are:
1. Learn Some New Techniques
I have never been scared of experimenting with my makeup. I like to try shades I think I can’t pull off, pair colours together that, at first glance, seem to clash, and wear bold eyes and lips at the same time. But it’s been ages since I’ve tried some new techniques. Once I learn one that works, I tend to stick to it, even when someone else recommends a new one that seems to work better.
And yet, every time I tried something new, my makeup ended up looking much better. Take concealer, for instance. I used to apply it just on the undereye area, but when I tried the triangle method, the result was more natural.
So, this year, I want to experiment with new ways of applying foundation, blush, etc. I also want to learn some fun techniques such as how to create ombre lips and draw unusual eyeliner shapes. That’s gonna take a while. I can’t even do a decent cat eye yet!
2. Experiment with my hair
I like to have fun with makeup, but I rarely experiment with my hair. I dyed my hair blonde in my teen years, but since then I went back to my natural colour and sported a bob. On days when I feel like doing something fancy, I wear a hairband. But I rarely do anything else to it. I just don’t know how. And I’m tired of it.
It’s time for me to become more adventurous with my hair. I don’t think I’ll stray from a bob because I think that’s the style that works best on me, but I want to learn how to create updos and braids for short hair.
If I feel like it, I may even start dying my hair again. I’ve always wanted to be a redhead, but I’d love to try some crazy colours such as pink and teal too. Maybe I’ll get some hair chalk and start with some highlights that can be easily washed off if I don’t like the results.
3. Treat the skin on my body with as much care as I do my face
I take very good care of my face, but come autumn, I totally forget to look after my body. I sometimes apply a rich body butter to my skin after a hot bath or shower, but I often forget to exfoliate it. And let’s not even talk about my feet. For 9 months of the year, I pretty much forget I have them lol.
But my body, and especially my feet, really need some TLC, so I vow to moisturize more often and exfoliate regularly from now on. I’m quite lazy, so this will probably be the hardest resolution for me to keep but I really need to, so wish me luck!
